He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Pedro Torres and Porfiria Lopez. Melvin was the beloved husband of 8 years to Marylin Caraballo; loving father of Melvin Gabriel Torres, Lizmarie Torres, Yomira Torres and step-father of Limary Caraballo, Evelio Caraballo III and Linette Pacheco (Antonio); cherished grandfather of Leonardo G. Torres, Adriana Lopez, Veronica Albino (Alexander Roman), Jasmin Albino, Felix A. Albino, Eliza Caraballo, Ciara Caraballo, Evelio Caraballo, Gabriel Pacheco and Juliana Pacheco; dear brother of Irma, Iris, Pedro, Carlos, Ramon and Franky; adored uncle and cousin of many.
Melvin was employed with United Airlines for 15 years in Technical Operations, where he took great pride in his work. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at La Sagrada Familia Church and was deeply involved in parish life. Faith was at the center of who he was; he embraced his religion wholeheartedly and was always eager to learn more.
Melvin had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke around, always trying to get a rise out of those around him. He carried a smile wherever he went and was truly a people person—kind, helpful, and always willing to assist anyone in need. A lifelong learner, he earned numerous trade certificates and wore many hats as a handyman, from HVAC to electrical work. Above all, Melvin was devoted to his wife and children, whom he loved deeply and supported with unwavering dedication.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 4PM-8PM at Craciun Berry Funeral Home, 7200 Detroit Avenue, Cleveland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10AM at La Sagrada Familia Church, 7719 Detroit Avenue, Cleveland. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brook Park.
