Clifford Marshall Murray (Cliff) was born on July 16, 1941 to Floyd Clifford Murray and Alma Murray in Cleveland, OH.
On July 15, 1961, Cliff married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Hopkins (who preceded him in death), and to this union two sons were born. He was an avid learner, having been educated in the Cleveland Public Schools, where he also excelled in sports, and working over the span of years to obtain a B.A. degree in Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace College. Cliff worked as a payroll manager at Reliance Electric for much of his career and became a bus driver for senior citizens after leaving the corporate world. After his retirement, he achieved one of his lifelong dreams of owning a roller skating rink which he helped to manage along with his business partners.
Cliff lived by the philosophy that if something needs to be done and you don’t know how to do it, read a book and then do it. That philosophy served him and those around him well over the years. He was a true renaissance man. He was a tailor, a photographer, a mechanic, an athlete, a skater, a business owner, a genealogist, a husband and father, and so much more. Cliff could sew you an outfit and then take a beautiful photo of you in it, fix your car and then build you a garage to put it in, show you how to throw a softball and then tell you how the softball is made, and if you wanted to know who your great, great grandfather was, he could do that too. In fact, his love of rebuilding cars was rivalled only by his interest in researching his family history. He took great pride in being the keeper of the family tree and displaying it at family reunions. Cliff even served as president of his genealogy club. He had a quiet strength that you couldn’t help but admire and respect. His family and friends were blessed to have known him.
Cliff was called home on February 13, 2019 surrounded by the love of family and the Father after a brief illness. He leaves to cherish his memory: two sons, Steven (Sandra) and Anthony (LaDonna); three siblings, Betty (Robert), Floyd and Edith; seven grandchildren, Paris, Zachary, Devon, Lamar, Dionna, Anton and Tiant; two great grandchildren, Asher and Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
