Henry Throme Mitchell, affectionately known as “Rome” answered God’s sweet whisper on June 7, 2019. Born on Wednesday, May 3rd 1950 to Andrew, Sr and Susie Lee Conley Mitchell in Toney Alabama, Rome was the 8th of 9 children and awarded the title ‘Baby Boy’. He was preceded in rest by both parents, and five of his older siblings: Savoy M. (Sa) Hill, Andrew (Blue) Mitchell, Jr., Willie O. (Babro) Mitchell, Allen W. Mitchell, and Hollis E. Mitchell.
Rome matriculated through Madison County School system throughout his childhood until he found his passion, his gift, his trade…Floor Laying!
From wall to wall, door to door, Rome could lay anything on a floor. He could make it stick, make it thick, make shine, make it align. If you wanted it tight, he would do it right. Nothing impressed him more than when he finished, his customers admiring HIS floors. This was his passion, this was his gift, this was his trade, and this is what made him have a well-known name.
Rome was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He leaves fond memories to cherish with: a tenderhearted and dedicated companion, Zelma Parker of Cleveland, OH; four loving and devoted children: Terrence D. Mitchell and Jerome L. Mitchell of Cleveland, OH; Crystal S. Hamlet of Harvest, AL; and Jasmine A. Fletcher of Norfolk, VA. Eight grandchildren: Jamerra L. Mitchell, Terris A. Mitchell, Taryn A. Mitchell, and Zakeeyah M. Mitchell, all of Cleveland, OH; Jabron L. Petty of Elizabethtown, KY, Jaida N. Steele and Crystian J. Montague of Harvest, AL; and Tayler S. Fletcher of Norfolk, VA. Two great grandchildren: Jayden and Josiah Stokes both of Cleveland, OH. Three adoring and devout sisters: Elois M. Malone (Edward), Susie R. Rivers, and Erma R. Mitchell, all of Cleveland, OH; and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rome was exceptionally proud of each of his children and he loved to brag about them. He loved all of his family and you could always catch him at family gatherings throwing out some form of ‘sly’ humor in the midst of a crowd. Rome will sincerely be missed by all! Just as Rome enjoyed to live in simplicity so did he desire to leave. A few of his final words were, “I’m okay with living and I’m okay with dying”. When God called, he answered because he knew his Father’s voice…Rest well “Det”, “Romeo”, “Rome”, “G-Daddy”, “Unc”, “Brother”, we will see you in the morning.
