Wilmer Roger Williams, 84, beloved and devoted father, brother and grandfather, entered eternal rest on Monday, July 30th, 2018 at the McGregor Pace Nursing Home in East Cleveland, OH. Wilmer was born November 13th, 1933 in Heath, Arkansas to Willie Walter and Fannie Bell (Seaborn) Williams. Wilmer was the second oldest of 6 children. Wilmer lived in Arkansas until 1948 when his family relocated to Cleveland, OH. He attended and graduated from John Adams High School in 1952.
Wilmer accepted the Lord at an early age and showed his relationship with God with quiet humility. Wilmer was proud of his military service to our country. He served in the US Marine Corp as an airplane mechanic and rose in rank from Corporal in 1954 to Sergeant in 1955 which he held until his honorable discharge in 1957. Wilmer had an incredible work ethic. He began his career at the Contract Transport Services, Inc. (CTS) in the latter 1950’s while also working part-time as a taxi driver. In 1965 Wilmer was employed with the Cleveland Plain Dealer as a delivery driver, and shortly thereafter also worked as a part-time school bus driver for the Cleveland Heights Jewish School District. During this time he also owned and maintained a 4-suite apartment building in East Cleveland, OH. After 27 faithful years of service, he retired from the Cleveland Plain Dealer. It was very important for Wilmer to remain busy and active during his retirement and, as a result he spent much of his time working various part-time jobs, traveling and being with his grandchildren.
Wilmer loved to spend time with his family and friends. He had a great passion for bowling and was actively involved in several bowling leagues. Wilmer considered the people that he bowled with to be more than just his friends, they were his bowling family. He also loved sports and would often sit in his favorite chair and watch many of the Cleveland Sports teams, especially the Cleveland Cavaliers. Wilmer had a great love for music, particularly gospel, jazz and R&B. Although Wilmer had a great love for sports and music, his greatest loves by far are his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wilmer was an exceptional father, grandfather, brother and friend.
