Mrs. Betty Delores Berry Thompson
Obituary
Betty Delores Berry Thompson was born to Lois and Joseph Frierson, Sr., on August 2, 1931.
She was one of two children and shared a special bond with her only brother, Joseph, Jr., who lovingly referred to his young sister as “Bet.”
Betty was educated in the Cleveland Public School System and remained in Cleveland her entire adult life.
Betty accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Antioch Baptist Church as a child. Her love and faithfulness to her church remained for over 75 years and she enjoyed and participated in several ministries and activities a great portion of this time.
She was extremely fond of the Ruth B. McKinney Circle, and enjoyed her membership with these women who were her sisters in Christ and friends. Betty carried a love for music and held it close to her heart. This was evident by her membership in the Adult Ensemble. Betty was serious about the music and could be heard rehearsing, even after rehearsal, in her home to make certain that every note was pitch perfect!
In her early years, Betty enjoyed exercising, reading and worked, for years, at the famous “Front Row Theater” as a hostess. She enjoyed hearing and seeing many famous celebrities entertain and perform. She was employed by The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Classified Ads Department, retiring after 25 years of dedicated service. She was always active with her hands and helped to unite countless couples as she provided services to them and was well known for being a highly regarded wedding planner.
Betty seldom forgot a birthday and her greeting cards for your special occasion were anticipated and sent, without fail, until her health limited her ability to continue. Betty’s handwriting, like her appearance was always beautiful. She was meticulous about her clothing and her style, from head to toe, was always fashionable, always classy.
Betty met Emmitt Thompson and they were united in marriage. They were blessed with many happy years together and she was a loving and devoted wife until his death.
Her greatest joy was her children whom she loved and was supported and cared for, until her transition with them at her side.
Betty was proceeded in death by her husband, Emmitt, parents Lois and Joseph Frierson, Sr.; brother, Joseph Frierson ,Jr., and sister in law, Mary Frierson.
Betty is survived by her devoted and loving children, Cheryl Berry, Kelvin (Debra) Berry, and Wendy (William, Jr.) West; grandchildren, Jeremy Reed, Errin (Ken) Berry-Weaver, Raynal West, Justin Berry, and Kamon West; and great granddaughter, Nala Weaver; a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Her children rise up and call her blessed... Proverbs 31:28
