

CATHERINE BARFIELD, affectionately known as Little Cat to her family and friends, was born on May 13, 1961, in Cleveland, Ohio to John May, Sr. and Gladys Barfield. Catherine was reared on the east side of Cleveland where she attended Cleveland Public Schools. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at First Zion Baptist Church under the pastorship of Horace G. Coleman.Catherine was always the life of the party! She was very outspoken. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. Like her mother, she was a great cook and hosted many Sunday dinners. She opened her home to many. She loved spontaneous road trips with her husband and gambling trips with her sisters. She enjoyed a career in banquet service for 25 years. Catherine met the love of her life, Cerome Smith, 35 years ago and they confessed their love on April 20, 2009. Catherine's humor and light heartedness will be remembered my many who loved her. She was preceded in death by her stepfather David Malone; sister Deborah Barfield; and granddaughter Janine Barfield I. Destined to cherish her memories are her husband Cerome Smith; son Rodney Barfield; daughters Katrina Barfield, Latasha Smith, and Tiffany Smith; grandchildren Marcel Wilson, Rodney Barfield, Jr., Janine Barfield II, Layla Barfield, Nasir Smith, and Kyree Smith; parents Gladys Malone and John May, Sr.; siblings David Wright, Tanya Turner, Kathleen Fussell (identical twin), Margaret Berry, Carolyn May, Maggie May, John May, Jr., Billy May, Annie May, Veronica May; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
