With heavy hearts and unshakable pride, we announce the passing of Robert Newberry, a two‑time, back‑to‑back Vietnam veteran, a man of unwavering courage, and a soul whose love reached farther than the battles he survived. Robert left this world the same way he lived in it — with honor, with dignity, and with a heart full of devotion to the people he loved.
Born with a warrior’s spirit and a protector’s heart, Robert answered his country’s call not once, but twice. He walked into the fire so others wouldn’t have to, carrying the weight of war on his shoulders with a quiet strength that only true heroes possess. He never called himself brave, but everyone who knew him did. His service was not just in the uniform he wore — it was in the way he lived, the way he loved, and the way he stood tall even when life tried to bend him.
To his family, Robert was more than a veteran. He was a steady hand, a warm laugh, a gentle presence in the storm. He loved deeply, fiercely, and without hesitation. He taught those around him what loyalty looks like, what sacrifice truly means, and how love can be a kind of bravery all its own.
Robert passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy carved into the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know him. Though he is no longer here in body, his spirit remains — in the stories he shared, the lessons he taught, and the quiet strength he gave to others without ever asking for anything in return.
He died in honor, just as he lived in honor. And while our hearts ache with the weight of losing him, we find comfort in knowing that he has finally found peace — a peace he more than earned.
Robert Newberry will be remembered not only as a soldier, but as a father, a friend, a protector, and a man whose love was as enduring as his courage. His footsteps may no longer echo beside us, but his legacy will walk with us for the rest of our lives.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Goetz; his loving daughter Jill Goetz and Andrea Goetz; his grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Lebron and Dennis and Danielle Dickness; his siblings, Gail Kartune (John) and the late Larry Newberry, Gary Newberry (Gail, surviving) and Carol Newberry; adored uncle, cousin and friend of many.
Rest in honor, Robert. Rest in love. Rest in the freedom you fought so hard to give others.
As per his wishes, all services will be private.
