Ruby was born in Birmingham, AL.
Ruby Randolph was born November 10, 1946 – December 30, 2023, Ruby passed away peacefully in her sleep. Ruby lived a beautiful and dignified life. A discerning woman of exquisite taste, she provided comfort and solace while asking little in return. Ruby adored her boys James, Johnnie and Kevin and taught them integrity, loyalty, and compassion imbuing in them the confidence necessary to pursue life with a pervasive, contagious fervor. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, forgave them, and always kept loving them.
Ruby was born in Autaugaville, Alabama to James Dorsey and Lucille Calhoun. Ruby graduated from John Hay High School in Cleveland, Ohio. Ruby then followed her dream of becoming a nurse, matriculating through the Huron Road School of Nursing becoming a registered nurse. Ruby then decided to increase her nursing practice areas. Ruby then graduated from Urseline College with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Ruby was very passionate about serving others and making a difference, thus leading her to the Army Reserve where she retired as Lieutenant Colonel Ruby Randolph. Ruby’s passion was to be a part of a professional minority nursing organization that would “Inspire and Empower innovative nursing leaders. This passion was fulfilled as Ruby served as active member for over three decades with The Cleveland Council of Black Nurses inc. Ruby was a longtime member of the north coast chapter of the “Tuskegee Airman”. Ruby was an avid supporter, she attended many, many airshows, she absolutely loved this. Ruby held leadership roles in nursing management at University Hospitals of Cleveland and Metro Health. Ruby retired from Parker Hannifin as the director of health and human care.
Ruby loved to travel, she often said that God allowed her to see and experienced environments in this life she only dreamed. Ruby has been a proud resident of Warrensville Heights since 1967. She would say what a great place to live and raise a family, she would say, black progress over the past half-century has been impressive, conventional wisdom to the contrary notwithstanding. And yet the nation has many miles to go on the road to true racial equality.
Ruby will be desperately missed by all those she left behind. Our hearts are broken by this loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed. Ruby’s memory will live on through all those that she touched and loved. She is survived by her children, James (Sandra), Johnnie, and daughter Bernadette LaFay Randolph. Her brother Jamie Dorsey, her grandchildren Joclyn Lyons, Camile Swoope, Johnnie Randolph II (Shaina), James Randolph Jr., Briana Baines, John A. Randolph, Ashley Randolph, Jaontae Randolph, Jahnae Randolph and Jordan Randolph and a host of great grandchildren, nieces’, nephews, and cousins.
