Rudolph Edwards, often referred to as “Rudy” was born to Alforance Edwards & Pearlie Tabor on March 26, 1928, in Amite, Louisiana. He is the oldest of twelve children. Rudy accepted Christ at an early age.
Rudy’s journey was marked by remarkable achievements. A graduate of Kentwood High School, he embarked on higher education at Southern University in Baton Rouge before his path took a turn with the call to serve his country. Drafted into the U.S. Army during his junior year, Rudy served actively from 1950-1952 and displayed valor and bravery during the Korean War, earning the prestigious Purple Heart for his sacrifice.
Beyond his military service, Rudy was a trailblazer, effecting change within the United States Postal Service. Yet amidst these accomplishments, Rudy’s greatest source of pride was his family. On June 4, 1956, he married the love of his life, Lillian (Watson), in Cleveland, Ohio. Together, they raised three remarkable sons—Rudolph Jr. (Ricky), Jeffrey, and Dion—filling their home with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Rudolph’s love knew no bounds. His Sundays were filled with the warmth of family breakfasts, his evenings with lively discussions on politics and religion.
He was an avid reader full of knowledge and wisdom. Rudolph’s generosity knew no bounds, extending his love and support not only to his kin but also to his community. Rudy was a beacon of compassion in his community, ever ready to lend a helping hand. Whether mowing a neighbor’s lawn, cooking for the sick, or aiding others, Rudolph’s kindness was unmeasurable and touched many lives.
Rudy leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be carried on by his devoted wife Lillian Edwards of 67 years, their three children Rudolph, Jr. (April), Jeffrey (Julie), and Dion. He is also survived by his 6 siblings: Ernestine (Sanders), Shelby (Doris), Melvin, Harry, Joyce, and Diane (Al). In addition, he is survived by his 7 grandchildren: Monique, Tamika (Joshua), Sean, Dominique, Jerel, Kayla, and Alexander, 13 great-grandchildren, Aunts Josie & Bobbie, Uncle Matthew (Rose), Goddaughters: Jenica,
