Tommie Lee Williams
June 13, 1934 – October 1, 2019
Tommy Lee Williams (affectionately known as Johnny by his family) was born on June 13, 1934 in Griffin, GA to Jack and Mamie Williams. He attended school in Griffin, GA and enlisted into the Airforce in 1951. Johnny received an honorable discharge in 1955 after serving in the Korean War. He briefly lived in Buffalo, New York with his cousin Linwood Thurman until he decided to make Cleveland his home in 1956. Johnny was employed at Ethan Dills Corporation and Cleveland Clinic where he worked a number of years. Johnny was preceded in death by his father Jack Williams; mother Mamie Williams; his brother J.L. Williams; sisters Eleven White, Julia Mae Askins, Thelma Jones, Josephine Dillard, Emma Jo Piercy, Mary Williams and Jessie Calloway. Johnny was a social and active man who enjoyed participating with Veteran activities, King Tutt Lodge, and watching the Cleveland Cavaliers. He enjoyed being the life of the party; he loved listening to music and dancing. Johnny is remembered by his classmates and family as a jokester and also a little mischievous. His sense of humor kept the laughs going especially with his nephews. He enjoyed telling elaborate stories and seeing them smile and his nephews looked forward to hearing all the tall tales knowing it was how their Uncle Johnny shared a special bond with them. Although, Johnny did not have children of his own there were two beautiful ladies he loved as though they were his daughters. Angela Osbey (Angie) she began as a care giver for Johnny (and lovingly called him Mr. Williams) but their relationship became like family. They were more like father and daughter. Angie always ensured all of Johnny’s business was taken care of. Often when Johnny was asked questions his response would be “Ask Angie she knows what to do”. Monica Williams affectionately called Johnny “T”. Monica is Johnny’s Goddaughter who has faithfully been in his life and assisted with caring for him throughout the years. Angie and Monica both were of great assistance to Johnny’s youngest sister Geraldine. Ensuring Geraldine was kept abreast to all aspects of his appointments, medication and basically anything that needed be cared for. Geraldine became the person for ensuring he was cared for and assisted Johnny with making decisions regarding his health. Johnny’s favorite words when things were going on with him or different facilities were asking questions was “call my sister Geraldine”. He expressed such pride in calling “Geraldine” his sister and knowing his nephews and nieces were available when he called or needed them. On October 1, 2019 God, in his infinite wisdom, called Johnny to eternal rest from the pain and suffering. Johnny will be remembered for his free spirit and making everyone laugh. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories brother Glenn Williams; sisters Georgia Williams of Griffin, GA, Geraldine Martin of Cleveland, OH; caregivers and extended family members Monica Williams and Angela Osbey and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
