William Arlen Marsh, 65, passed away on December 8, 2016 in Cleveland, Ohio. Bill was a Cleveland native and a John Marshall High School graduate. He also lived in Baltimore, Maryland, for a number of years before returning to his Cleveland home. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Reverend J. Arlen Marsh and Mary Elizabeth Marsh, and a sister, Elaine. He was the beloved brother of Richard, Dorene and Kevin (Sherry) Marsh, and Cheryl (James) Koryta, and a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Bill was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having served with the 6921 Security Wing, stationed in both Italy and Misawa, Japan, and he maintained lifelong friendships with his fellow servicemen. Following his time in the Air Force, he embarked on a successful career in the cross-country trucking industry, working for both Atlas Van Lines and independently. He was well known for his knowledge of the nation's highways, and he made many lasting friendships across the country and overseas. A fine fisherman, he could often be found on his boat on the rare days when he was not working. He was also an avid reader, with a particular affinity for the novels of Louis L’Amour, Stephen King, and Michael Koryta, among others.
Bill was a devoted fan of Cleveland sports teams, and for many years he was a season-ticket holder of the Indians. Among his favorite Jacobs Field memories was a one-run game won by a steal of home plate by Jim Thome – Bill claimed he was asleep when it happened.
Friends, colleagues, and family alike knew Bill as both a humorous man and an exceedingly generous one.
Bill was a member of the Church of the Open Bible at 689 Adams Street in Bedford, OH, where his memorial service will be held on Friday, December, 16 at 7 p.m. The Inurnment with military honors will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH on Monday, December 19. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Disabled Veterans of America Charitable Service Trust.
