Barry W. Rogers, age76, loving husband and soulmate of Donna Rogers since 2000, was taken home to be with our Lord unexpectedly on December 3, 2019. He was born October 8, 1943 in New Haven, CT, to Alex and Doris Moulton Rogers. He lived in Higganum, CT for the last 25 years.
Before retirement in 2014, Barry was employed at Royal Display Corporation in Middletown, CT as a design engineer. He also had his own side business doing painting and carpentry.
Those who knew Barry well know that his life was a testimony to the restorative grace of God. Barry was a beloved member and usher at Living Rock Church in Killingworth, CT. He was also on the committee for the Haddam-Killingworth Relay For Life and was active at SNAP Fitness in Essex, CT.
He was a good neighbor, helping out and visiting to check on their welfare. He enjoyed travel, especially Caribbean cruises, long scenic drives in Connecticut, and walking at Hamonassett State Park. He also took special pleasure in feeding the birds and watching them gather in his back yard.
He will be remembered for his deep love for his wife, his concern for the well-being of every member of his family, and his willingness to share his knowledge with others. He didn’t go far in school; but he was always willing to learn, and master, new skills.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived and will be dearly missed by his son Barry Rogers and daughter-in-law Elle of Dover NH, his son Richard Rogers of Branford, his daughter Cindy Moore of Hamden, his stepson Don Alger of Middletown, his stepson Kevin Alger of Middletown, his eldest brother Charles Rogers and sister-in-law Carol of Wallingford, a sister-in-law Ellie Rogers of Middletown, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dianne and John Curry of Hinckley, IL, a brother-in-law David Gephard of Centerbrook, a brother-in-law Stephen Gephard of Ivoryton, at least 17 grandchildren, about 13 great grandchildren, many special nieces and nephews, his brothers and sisters in Christ at Living Rock Church, and Camp Bethel.
Barry was predeceased by his parents, his sons Alex and David, his daughter Sharon, and his brothers David, Edward, Richard, and William.
Barry’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Haddam Volunteer Ambulance and all the first responders, the caring staff at the Middlesex Hospital ER, and the Swan Funeral Home staff for their wonderful care and support. We would also like to express our deep appreciation to our neighbors, and our brothers and sisters in Christ at Living Rock Church and Camp Bethel for their many acts of love and kindness during this difficult time.
A celebration of Barry’s life will be held at Living Rock Church, 138 Route 81 Killingworth CT on Wednesday at 2pm. There will be a light reception in the church’s community room following the service. Burial of his cremains will take place in the Church’s Memorial Garden in the spring.
