Charles "Charlie" Taft, 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on June 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those he cherished most. Born on March 29, 1948, Charlie lived a full and meaningful life, touching the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Charlie was the beloved husband and best friend of Sandie Taft, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Their bond was one to be admired, and after retiring nearly 11 years ago, they embraced every opportunity to travel together, creating countless cherished memories. Whether exploring new places or taking peaceful walks together at Hammonasset, Charlie was happiest simply being by Sandie's side. Their love was the foundation of his life.
He was a proud and devoted father to Charles Taft Jr. (Donna), Anthony Taft (Mary), Billy Taft, Nichole Zingarella (Mike), and Heather Bors (Art). He was an adoring grandfather to Christina Taft, Michael Zingarella Jr., Bennett Taft, and Brayden and Jaxon Bors, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy. One of Charlie's greatest pleasures was watching his grandson, Michael, play baseball. Whether he was cheering from the stands or talking about Michael's latest game or accomplishments with family and friends, nothing made him prouder than seeing his grandson do what he loved.
Charlie also leaves behind many beloved siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.
Charlie spent much of his career as co-owner of Total Interiors LLC alongside his best friend, John. Together they built not only a successful business but also a lifelong friendship rooted in trust, respect, and countless shared memories.
An avid golfer, Charlie treasured the time he spent on the course with his buddies at the Clinton Country Club. Whether he was chasing the perfect round or simply enjoying the camaraderie, those days brought him great happiness.
Sports were another lifelong passion. Charlie was a devoted fan of Boston sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, and never missed the chance to cheer on the New York Jets. Win or lose, he remained a loyal fan, always ready to talk sports with family and friends.
Above all else, Charlie was a family man. He was the kind of husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend who always put others before himself. His kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering support touched the lives of so many. He taught his family the importance of love, loyalty, hard work, and cherishing time together.
Charlie embraced every day with gratitude and enthusiasm. He believed that life was meant to be lived to the fullest, and he encouraged everyone around him to do the same. That simple philosophy guided the way he lived and the example he set for his family and friends.
The Taft family would also like to express their deepest gratitude to the extraordinary doctors, nurses, aides, and staff of Middlesex Hospital and Middlesex Home Hospice. Your compassionate care, kindness, dignity, and unwavering support provided Charlie and his family with comfort during one of life's most difficult journeys. Your dedication will never be forgotten, and our family will be forever grateful.
Charlie will be remembered not only for the life he lived but for the love he shared so freely. His legacy lives on in his family, the friendships he cultivated, and the countless memories that will continue to bring smiles and comfort to those who loved him.
Though our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing that his love will remain with us always. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Friends and family are invited to gather for calling hours on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 4pm until 7pm at Swan Funeral Home, located at 80 E. Main St, Clinton, CT.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Charlie’s name to Middlesex Home Hospice.
