

Claire Ellen Galli, of Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., died at the age of 72 October 11, 2025, in Clinton, Ct. She leaves behind her husband, Charles J. Shaw; sisters, Anne Galli of Spring Lake, N.J., and Joan Galli of Conneautville, Pa.; a brother, Robert A. Galli of Henniker, N.H.; a niece, Danielle Cardarelli, and nephews, Robert C. Galli and Keith Galli; Charles’ son William R. Shaw; the respective spouses; her loyal Jack; and a great many dear friends and admirers.
Claire was born in Englewood, N.J., July 13, 1953, to Eda Marthe Bratschi and Robert Pierre Galli, and was raised in Oradell, N.J. After attending Oradell public schools, Claire received a B.S. in nursing in 1976 at Duke University. She went on to earn an M.S.N. in adult nursing from Columbia University and a second master's degree in family practice from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, as well as numerous advanced nursing practice certifications.
After serving in multiple nursing roles across the country, Claire settled in Charleston, S.C., later returning to New Jersey to care for ailing family. Thereafter Claire's career as a nurse practitioner in New York spanned many years at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and St John's Riverside Hospital, primarily in emergency medicine and cardio-thoracic surgery. Previously a longtime resident of City Island, N.Y., since 1999 Claire lived in Hastings-on-Hudson. She retired in 2019.
After many loving years of commitment to each other, Claire and Charles married June 21, 2025. Besides spending time with Charles, Claire was always active and involved. She served for many years on the board of her cooperative. Claire enjoyed sailing, kayaking, trail walking, book clubs, travel, and of course socializing with family and friends.
In both her professional career and her personal life, Claire was a special person who dedicated her life to helping others and left an unforgettable impression on those fortunate enough to have spent time with her. She was deeply cherished and will be greatly missed by many.
Charitable contributions in Claire's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Doctors without Borders, the International Committee of the Red Cross, American Near East Refugee Aid, World Central Kitchen, or a charity of one's choice.
A memorial and celebration for all family and friends will be held Saturday, November 15, 2025, 12:00 noon, at Red Hat on the River, One Bridge Street, Irvington, N.Y.
