
Daniel T. Phillips, 86, of Clinton, CT, passed away on October 7, 2011. Daniel was a vibrant presence who was well-respected and much-loved in the community. He was born on March 30, 1925, in Bronx, New York. After graduating magna cum laude from the City College of New York in 1943, he served in the U. S. Army during World War II, working in Army Intelligence in Europe and attaining the rank of Sergeant. After the war he earned a Masters Degree from New York University and owned a printing business before becoming a teacher at age 35. For many years he taught mathematics at East Orange High School in New Jersey. Later, after becoming a Certified Public Accountant, he joined the faculty of Somerset County College (now Raritan Valley Community College), where he was Professor of Accounting and served as Chair of the Business Department. He retired as Professor Emeritus of Accounting in 1987 and moved to Clinton, CT, in 2000. He was a member of Temple Beth Tikvah in Madison, CT, and sang in the temple choir. An avid musician, he played piano and clarinet and enjoyed attending concerts given by his two children, both of whom are musicians. His other main interests were ballroom dancing, traveling, playing bridge, and pursuing a healthy lifestyle. He is survived by his brother, Norman of Clarkston, WA; his former wife, Vivian of Cranford, NJ; his children, Paul of Cranston, RI and Emily of Guilford, CT; his daughter-in-law, Kathryne Jennings, and four grandchildren, Joanna and Alanna Phillips, and Sonny and Annabella Capaccio.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, (October 11th) at 11 a.m. at Temple Beth Tikvah in Madison, CT. The family will be sitting Shiva at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at 350 Nortontown Rd. in Guilford, CT. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Swan Funeral Home in Clinton, CT.
