

George J. Potter, 82, of East Haven, formerly of Killingworth, passed away on Feb. 28, 2013 after a brief illness. George was born in Hamden, Conn. on March 2, 1930 to the late Erwin and Augusta (Buettner) Potter. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy (Adamczyk) Potter; his sister, Barbara Potter and his brother, Erwin Potter. He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Potter and her husband, Joseph Stemple of East Haddam; his son, David Potter and his wife, Kelly of East Granby; and his son, Clayton Potter of Danbury. George will also be dearly missed by his grandson, Thomas Potter. George worked for New York Life Insurance Co. in sales and sales management for 35 years. He earned a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation from The American College, attended Quinnipiac University and the New York School of Design. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. While at Hamden High School, George played hockey and was an avid sports fan his entire life. He rooted for the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed attending games with his family, cheered the New York Giants, and was a dedicated fan of UConn basketball, especially the Lady Huskies. In recent years, he enjoyed walking and kayaking. George was a resident of Killingworth for more than 30 years and was active in the community, serving as a Cub Scout pack leader, member of the Lion's Club and the Westbrook Elks, and a congregant of St. Lawrence Church. Most of all, George was devoted to Dorothy, his wife of 43 years, and his children. He will be fondly remembered for his humor, his willingness to lend a hand or an ear at any time, and his thoughtfulness towards family and friends. Friends may call on Tuesday, March 5 from 5-7 p.m. at the Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton, Conn. A funeral service will take place at Swan Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 6 at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook. www.swanfh.com.
