Gregory John McNamara, Sr., 75, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at 8:18 p.m. Born on April 6, 1950, in Stamford, Connecticut, Greg was the beloved son of Vincent McNamara and Helen (Brzozowski) McNamara.
Greg grew up in Stamford and attended Holy Name of Jesus School followed by Stamford Catholic High School. As a young teen, he worked as a caddy at Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich—a job that ignited what would become a lifelong passion for golf. He proudly became a member of the prestigious Hole-in-One Club and competed in numerous tournaments, forming lasting friendships on fairways across the region.
Professionally, Greg devoted much of his life to computer programming and database administration, contributing his skills to Phibro Energy, GE, and MetLife. Later, fulfilling a longtime dream, he transitioned into real estate, working with the David Wolfe team at William Raveis.
He treasured time spent at his cabin in the Catskill Mountains, where he shared many unforgettable weekends with his son. Through his mid to later years, his treasure was his wife, Ellen whom he loved dearly and the entire Conroy family whom he created many family memories with.
In his later years, he enjoyed passing along his life wisdom—always ready with a practical lesson or thoughtful bit of guidance. And with his grandson, Greg was known to hand out treats—often after his grandson would brush his teeth for the night—because even the most doting grandfathers have their own rules.
Greg was predeceased by his wife Ellen Conroy McNamara in 2023.
He is survived by his son Gregory, daughter-in-law Maria, and grandson Jamie, who brought him tremendous joy. He is also survived by his cousins Jean Kennedy Hunter and Jim Hunter, and their son and daughter, Ian Kennedy Hunter and Jessica Hunter along with extended family, in-laws, and friends who will miss him deeply.
To his loved ones, Greg will always be remembered as a strong, caring provider—steady, loyal, and devoted. His warmth, humor, and generosity will be carried forward in the hearts of all who loved him.
All services to honor Gregory’s life will remain private. Please keep his family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
“Children’s children are the crown of the aged; and the glory of children is their fathers.” — Proverbs 17:6”
