

He was born on May 14, 1934, in Minneota, MN, the son of James and Bernice (Hauffman) Flemming. He attended St. Edward Catholic School in Minneota, MN, and graduated from Minneota High School in 1953.
He was the widower of Agathe Rist Flemming whom he met in 1959 and married in Puerto Rico in 1960. They were married 54 years and had two children, Jim and Ann, whom they raised in Clinton, CT. . He began working on his bachelor’s degree before finishing his Navy tenure, and completed it in 1978 when he received a BA in business from the University of New Haven. He taught and mentored in Navy Sub School, taught Electrical Apprenticeship Training at Eli Whitney Technical School in Hamden, CT, and was a substitute shop teacher at several shoreline high schools. Jim is well known for his many years as an electrician serving the shoreline through his business, Flemming’s Electric.
Jim Flemming is remembered for his kindness and generosity and enjoyed many years of public service having served in the US Navy for 20 years including river patrol in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion Post 79 and the Westbrook Elks Lodge 1784. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 87 in Madison, CT where he earned the degree of Master Mason. Jim was a 50 year member of the Lutheran Church in Madison.
Jim enjoyed daily exercise which included jogging up until recent years, then daily walking, at Hammonasset State Park. Jim loved watching sports, especially football. He was an avid gardener with a 30’ x40’ vegetable garden every summer. He donated much of his produce to local food pantries, as well as his many friends and family.
James Flemming Sr. is survived by his children Ann Pavlou and her husband Ken of Killingworth and James Flemming, Jr., of Voluntown; siblings John Flemming of Minnesota and Joe Flemming and Margaret Drietz, both of Texas; and 3 beloved grandchildren Jimmy Flemming, Jason and Katie Pavlou. He will be deeply missed by his family, and all whose lives he touched. The world is a better place for Jim having been in it.
