

James P. Hoyt, 68, of Clinton, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, after an 11 year battle with kidney cancer. He was the amazing, loving husband of Holly Heberling Hoyt for 47 years. Jim was born in Bridgeport, CT on September 30, 1944 and grew up in Stamford, CT. He has lived in Clinton for the past 41 years. Holly and Jim met at The University of Connecticut and have been avid UCONN basketball fans. They enjoyed going to 4 Women’s Final Four Championship games. Jim’s favorite pastime was spending time with friends and family. He was an active member of the community, involved in the Clinton Lion’s Club, Zoning Board of Appeals, and a longtime member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, serving on the Diaconate, Finance, and Nominating committees. Jim owned a Pepperidge Farm Cookie franchise for many years and was known to all the local kids as, “The Cookie Man.” The past 20 years, he enjoyed semi-retirement with his beef jerky business. Jim is the loving father of Todd Hoyt, wife Cathy and grandchildren Hayley and Harrison of Carbondale, CO and Heather O’Toole, husband Patrick, and grandchildren Cailin, Declan, and Teague of Malverne, NY. Jim was known to his grandchildren as “Bo” (as in Jimbo). He is also survived by his brother Peter Hoyt of Bradenton, FL and Winifred Schroeder of Bradenton, FL.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, July 5th from 4 PM to 7 PM at Swan Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held on July 6th at the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Clinton at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to The First Church of Christ, Congregational or the American Cancer Society.
