James “Jimmy” E. Mathiason, 62, of Old Lyme, Connecticut, passed away on July 11, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown after a long and courageous battle with sepsis. He fought hard every step of the way, surrounded by the love and support of his family.
Born on August 4, 1962, Jimmy was a proud resident of Old Lyme. He was the beloved son of the late Mary and Christian Mathiason and the devoted husband of Carmen Mathiason, who remained faithfully by his side.
Jimmy is survived by his daughter Jessica Jenkins, and his two grandchildren, Christopher and Julianna Jenkins. He also leaves behind his cherished step-grandson Kelvin Gael, who could always count on “Grandpa Jimmy” to get right down on the floor and play—though getting back up sometimes took a minute (and maybe a little help). His surviving siblings Howard, Bob, Susan, and Calvin will miss his fun times he always brought. He is now reunited with his brother Christian and sister Lisa.
Jimmy spent 25 years at Silgan Plastics, where he retired. Riding his Harley-Davidson on long, scenic rides with friends and family and cooking mouth-watering meals (steak and seafood were his specialties) are what brought the most joy. He always had southern rock or classic rock blasting on his bike. Jimmy was sure to bring the good times and laughs wherever he went.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 25th, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Swan Funeral Home 80 E Main St Clinton, CT 06413. Family and friends are invited to come share memories, stories, and maybe a few laughs, just the way Jimmy would have wanted. Please feel free to where your favorite Harley Davidson gear! Jimmy would love that.
