Janet Kristina (Root) Alt, of Westbrook, died on April 12, 2014, after a brief illness. She was born in April 19, 1942, in Englewood, NJ, to John William Alt and Alice Kristina Johnson. A graduate of Norwalk High School, Janet moved to Westbrook, CT in 1976. For many years Janet worked at and then owned Baby Bargains, a children’s consignment shop in Old Saybrook. She was a member of the Westbrook Gardening Club and the Westbrook Women’s Club. She was an avid reader and gardener. Janet was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and found great joy in attending sporting and school events. She will be remembered for her quick wit and spunky sense of humor. Janet is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kristina and George Fulk and their three children, Jessica, Connor and Kyle; her son and daughter-in-law James and Jill Root and their four children, Spencer, Trevor, Tucker and Peyton; and her daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Kenneth Jacobs and their two children, Zachary and Skyler; and her brothers Jack and Alan Alt and their families. Janet was predeceased by her sister, Ethel Alt. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 19 from 6 to 8pm at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton, CT. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.To sign the online guest book visit
