Joan Mary Gordon

Joan Gordon was born on January 8, 1925, in New York City. She was raised in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx with her two younger siblings, Richard Attridge of South Salem, NY and Mary Ann (Attridge) Manna of Bedford,NY. She attended grade school and high school there, and it was there that she met her future husband, John.

Joan and John were married in 1945 and lived a short time in New York City before moving to Levittown, L.I. It is at this time that they started their family and subsequently had five children. In the mid 1950’s they moved to Pleasantville, NY, where they remained for almost 30 years.

After John’s retirement they moved to Sag Harbor, Long Island, and also purchased a home in Sun City West, Arizona, where they spent their winters.

Joan loved the beach and to travel. She had made trips to Puerto Rico, Italy and Ireland. She also had a passion for decorating (and all her houses showed it). While in Arizona she pursued jewelry making and was very active in volunteer work. In about 2000 they moved to Old Saybrook, CT.

Joan is survived by her four children: J. Gregory Gordon of Old Lyme, CT; Jane Gordon of Chester, CT; Christopher Gordon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Jonathan A. Gordon of Clinton, CT; Joan was predeceased by her husband of 65 years John (who passed away in 2010) and a son, Richard J. Gordon. Joan is also survived by eight Grandchildren: Shannon Gordon of Beverly Hills, CA; Shane Gordon of Hawthorne, CA; Kara Bonsack of Lyme, CT; Kelly Bonsack of Los Angeles, CA; Erica (Gordon) Campion of Raleigh, NC; Catherine Gordon, John Gordon and Elizabeth Gordon, all of Clinton, CT. she was also a Great-Grandmother to Kaitlyn, Owen, Kyle, Virginia, Emery, Marley & Dylan.

Services will be held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY on February 3, 2016 at 12:00 noon.
