Lillian Carolyn Wall Allen, age 96, of Clinton, CT., passed away peacefully at her home Saturday August 18, 2012. Lillian was born in Hartford, CT., on September 21, 1915 to the late George and Lillian Pearson Wall Frisk.
Lillian grew up in Hartford, graduating in 1933 from Bulkeley High School, and worked at G. Fox and Co. department store for several years before becoming an Executive Secretary at the Aetna Insurance Co., in Hartford. In 1973, she moved to Clinton and continued to commute to Hartford until she retired. She then worked for a local pharmacy and Goodwill Industry. She was a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department, served as treasurer of the Clinton Beach Association, and volunteered at the Shoreline Kitchen Clinton Food Bank established when her son was the Rector of the Church of the Holy Advent. She was an avid reader, loved her times at the beach, faithfully watched the BBC and spent time with her dogs. The community of Clinton has lost a good friend and contributor.
Lillian is survived by her stepbrother Wayne Wall of Vero Beach, FL., and his wife Margaret, her son the Rev. Russell H. Allen of Harwich, MA. and his wife Louisa, and her daughter Carol Judith Watkins of Florida and Maine and her husband David. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Sandra Allen of Clinton, grandchildren Dr. Erica S. Gelven of Clinton and her husband Marc, Joshua W. Allen of Milton, MA., and his wife Rebecca, Suzann Vernali of Andover, CT., Pamela Rosch of Clinton and her husband Robert, Raymond Williams of Turner, ME., and David Williams of Enfield, CT. She was predeceased by her son Chief Hugh D. Allen of the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department, her grandson Mark Williams and granddaughter Dianne Zielinski, step-grandson Jeffrey Miller, and great-granddaughter Rachel Williams. She also leaves her step-granddaughter Debbie Miller of Clinton and several great-grandchildren.
A memorial ceremony for Lillian will be held on Saturday, September 29th, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Town Beach in Clinton, with a reception following at the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department Fire House on Main Street.
