Marian Elaine Fitzgerald

Born in New Haven, Connecticut, on August 28, 1930, Marian was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Ek. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Edward "Jack" Fitzgerald, and her son, John Edward Fitzgerald, Jr.

Marian is survived by her sons, Richard Fitzgerald of Guilford (Diane), Michael Fitzgerald of Laconia, New Hampshire (Kathy), James Fitzgerald of Clinton (Christine), and by her daughter, Patricia Gervais of Colchester, Vermont (Joseph). She also leaves behind her eight cherished grandchildren: Lauren Erbe of North Haven, Connecticut (Kevin), Jaime Fitzgerald of Mesa, Arizona (Matthew), Sean Fitzgerald of Clinton, Connecticut, Joshua Gervais of Boston, Massachusetts (Emi), Rachel Gervais of Boston, Massachusetts, Jack Fitzgerald of Williston, Vermont, Alexandra Fitzgerald of Guilford, and Caroline Fitzgerald of New York City. Marian is additionally survived by her great-grandchildren, Carson and Cameron Erbe and Jack Gervais, as well as her nieces and nephews, Ann, William, Robert, Diane, and Thomas Fitzgerald.

Marian grew up in New Haven and graduated from Saint Mary’s High School in 1948. She went on to attend the University of Connecticut, graduating in 1952. It was there that she met her husband Jack after he advertised rides to and from New Haven in his 1948 Studebaker. Jack charged $1 each way and would pick up Marian first so she would sit in the front seat with him.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Marian embraced life with warmth, kindness, and an infectious sense of humor. Alongside Jack, she dedicated countless hours to volunteering with the Cheshire hockey program and was one of the founding members of the Cheshire Hockey Booster Club in 1974. She was affectionately known as "Marian the Librarian" for her many years of volunteer service in the library at Chapman School in Cheshire.

Marian's positivity, generosity, and quick wit made everyone around her feel welcome and loved. She found great joy playing bridge and spending time at the beach in Westbrook. She was a voracious reader who spent countless hours on her front porch “perch'” overlooking Long Island Sound, happily being interrupted by friends and neighbors strolling by. Marian also enjoyed cheering on her favorite teams; she was an avid fan of UConn athletics, the Boston Red Sox, and the New England Patriots.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Homewatch CareGivers, especially Reginah Moalafi, whose extraordinary care, compassion, and devotion enriched Marian's life. Her love and dedication meant more than words can express, and the family will be forever grateful.

Marian's legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mark's Church, 222 McVeagh Road, Westbrook, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Swan Funeral Home of Clinton.
