

Born on October 30, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Michael was the beloved son of the late Edward J. Cushing and Mary (O’Connor) Cushing. He spent much of his childhood in Bayside, Long Island, where he attended local schools before continuing his education at Stonehill College in Massachusetts.
Michael began his professional life in Braintree, Massachusetts, where he built a career in sales. In the mid 1970’s, he relocated to the Madison, Connecticut area, and in the mid 1980’s he established himself as a building contractor by starting a general contracting business and became a well-known and respected member of the community. Over the years, Michael formed countless friendships and connections, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of meeting him.
Known for his outgoing and gregarious personality, Michael had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever he went. His warmth, humor, and genuine interest in others made everyone feel welcome and valued. Whether in passing conversation or long-standing friendship, Michael’s presence brought comfort and joy.
A devout Catholic, Michael found great meaning in his faith and cherished attending church with family and friends. He also had a deep love for the outdoors, particularly fishing, where he found peace and contentment surrounded by nature.
Michael will be remembered for his positive outlook on life, his friendly spirit, and his unwavering kindness. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he brightened. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Michael is survived by his sons, R. Alex Cushing (Heather) and Michael B. Cushing, Jr., his four beloved stepchildren, Gina, Valerie, Diane & Joseph, and his adored grandchildren, R. Alex Cushing Jr., Averie and Julia, his brother Tom Cushing and sister in law Nancy, his brother John and sister in law Terry, his sister in law Patricia Cushing, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Rose Marie Cushing in 2023.
Calling hours will be held for Michael on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 9am until 12pm at Swan Funeral Home located at 80 E. Main St, Clinton, CT 06413.
