Michael Patrick McAllister, 66, of Connecticut, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 17, 2026. Though his passing was sudden and unexpected, his family finds comfort in knowing he left this world peacefully.
Born on September 11, 1959, in New Haven, Connecticut, Mike was the son of George "Bill" McAllister and Viola McHugh McAllister. He grew up in West Haven, where the lifelong bond between the McAllister and Coyle families was forged. Mike remained deeply connected to his roots and treasured the friendships he made as a young "Westie rascal," maintaining those brotherly relationships throughout his life.
After graduating from West Haven High School, Mike attended Cheshire Academy and later Saint Michael's College in Vermont, where his gift for friendship and sense of adventure continued to flourish. The friendships he made there remained among the most cherished of his life.
Mike spent 18 years as a conductor for Metro-North Railroad, a career he loved. Following injuries sustained during a train fire, he was forced into an early retirement, but he never lost his affection for the railroad or the many friends he made there.
Proud of his Irish heritage, Mike embraced life with enthusiasm, humor, and an unmatched ability to bring people together. He was a devoted New York Giants fan and shared that passion with another close-knit circle of lifelong friends. Living in Clinton for nearly 30 years, Mike formed yet another treasured group of friends. What began as connections with fellow parents through his children's schools and sports teams evolved into deep and lasting relationships, becoming his beloved "Clinton family." He loved golfing, boating, playing setback, and telling stories—often holding a room captive with his wit, timing, and larger-than-life tales. Mike was also legendary for his elaborate practical jokes and pranks, delighting in making others laugh and creating memories that will be retold for years to come.
More than anything, Mike loved people. He shared a deeply devoted and loving marriage with his wife, and the two found joys in the simple pleasures of life: day trips or weekend getaways, drives along the coast, local chowder and lobster rolls, and the annual Misquamicut vacation. He took immense pride in his children, and nothing brought him greater happiness than witnessing their lives, achievements, and the love they shared as a family. He was fiercely loyal to his family and friends, and his greatest joy came from sharing time, laughter, and stories with those he loved.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Viola McAllister, and his brother, Billy McAllister.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Nancy McAllister; his children, Patrick and Megan McAllister; his dear cousin Kevin McHugh; and a large extended family who loved him dearly, including Gail and Thom Sobalsky, Dr. Harold and Ellen Card, Suzanne Healy, Pat Card, Tom and Carolyn Card, Gerry and Kathy Card, Annie Card and Heather McKernan, Ellen Card, Kate and Neil Belleville, Brian Card, and 14 cherished nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind countless friends from West Haven, St. Mike’s, Metro-North, Clinton, and the New York Giants community, and every chapter of his life.
Mike's legacy is one of friendship, laughter, loyalty, and love. He never met a stranger, never missed an opportunity for a good story, and never let the people he loved doubt how much they meant to him. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
