Phyllis Jean Blume Traynor passed away peacefully on June 1st, 2020 at the age of 82.
She was born on September 8th, 1937 in Englewood, New Jersey to Frederick J. Blume and Marion Bernice Kidd Blume. She graduated from Tenafly High School and proceeded to attend Skidmore College. Phyllis married her husband Douglas Keith Traynor in 1962. They raised two daughters, Tara and Tiffany, and one son, Rourk. Long time residents of Pound Ridge, New York, they retired to Clinton, Connecticut.
Phyllis was an incredibly talented artist with an expertise in ceramics, tile, and painting. She succeeded in making her passion a career. Her gift was admired, not only by family and friends, but by clients all around the country. The fine arts and business she created was notably recognized by the New York Times as well as her appearance on PBS Modern Masters. Phyllis was also a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society.
She enjoyed photography, playing tennis, swimming, and taking walks to the beach. Phyllis felt most at home by the ocean waves. She had a rare way of capturing special moments, memories, emotion, and soul in her pictures as well as her art. She will be remembered by her amazing sense of humor, infectious laugh, and unique, creative spirit. "The job of an artist is to offer a sanctuary of beauty to an ugly world." We are eternally grateful for all beauty shared by Phyllis throughout her life. She will truly be missed.
Phyllis was predeceased by her father, Frederick, her mother, Marion, her brother, Jeffrey, and her husband, Douglas. She is survived by her daughters, Tara Peterson, Tiffany (David) Muhlenberg, and son, Rourk (Giovana) Traynor. Also survived by her grandchildren, Briana Peterson, Brittany (Francis) Restucci, Maren, Kalyn, and Erik Muhlenberg, Douglas and Michael Traynor, as well as her great grandson, Dean Peterson.
