Raymond Hugh O'Neill

Raymond Hugh O’Neill, age 73 of Grand Canyon, Arizona and formerly of the Fair Haven section of New Haven, CT, passed away on April 30, 2013. Ray was born in New Haven on September 4, 1939 to the late John J. and Rose (Conefrey) O’Neill. In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by his sister Marcella McArdle and her husband Joe; his sister Peggy McHugh; and his brother Jake O’Neill and his wife Corrine. Ray was an alderman in the 28th ward in Fair Haven, New Haven, where he grew up. He had a long career in telecommunications industry which took him throughout the United States and Canada. Ray and his wife Barbara spent their retirement years In Arizona running tours to the Grand Canyon. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Barbara (Zwack) Oneill; his daughters Maureen Herring and her husband Bret, Betsy O’Neill and her partner Barbara Kennedy, Jean O’Neill, and Karen O’Neill; his sons Tim and his wife Olinda, Daniel and his wife Susan Barrett, and Raymond and his wife Er Ye; his sisters Nora Laverty of New Haven, and Sister Sheila O’Neill, ASCJ of Hamden; his brothers Hugh and his wife Martha of New Haven, James and his wife Mary of Florida, Robert and his wife Bernice of New Haven, and his brother in law Jimmy McHugh of Hamden. He will also be dearly missed by his grandchildren Karen O’Neill, Morgan O’Neill, Fiona Walters, Kate Herring, Rose Kennedy and Russell O’Neill as well as his great grandchildren Vex and Vinny. His many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will remember him as a man of great wit and humor who will be tremendously missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, May 10, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in New Haven at 11:00 am followed by interment at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford. Friends may call on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
