My 10 year old grandson is spending the week with us from New Hampshire. I told him he will be coming to a memorial service for Ricky Albrecht with me on Saturday. He wanted to know how I knew him and if he had ever met Rick. So I started by telling him that I met Rick 53 years ago when I moved to town and went to school with his sister Joanne. I then went on to tell him all the things Rick had done in town etc. and that his mom (my daughter) who grew up in town knew him also. I also told him with all the crazy things going on in politics these days, we all knew that Rick was a Democrat, but it never made a difference to him how anyone voted, as long as they did. I remembered that for a short time Matt came to my home for daycare when Rick was in a bind. I also mentioned that I had to call the ambulance a few months ago when my husband had the flu and Rick showed up so we would have a familiar face. As we talked about Rick all the way home from Old Saybrook , I realized that when my grandson was 6 months old, for his First Christmas my daughter and son in law had brought him to Killingworth to see the lights at Gorski's. Rick Albrecht was Santa that year (another of his many hats). I found a photo that we had taken and showed my grandson, he was very happy to know that Rick had been in his life too. To the Albrecht Family, may all the memories and realizing all the people that Rick touched, make your loss a little easier.

We were wed at the Country Squire in Killingworth 36 years ago and Ricky Albrecht stood up for my bride that day. Now I can't think of that town without having thoughts of Ricky too, one of my bride's oldest and dearest friends. A man of steady habits, an even temper and a very good humor, Ricky will be sorely missed by all who knew him and the town he served so well in so many ways. God speed Ricky.

We will miss Rick very much. Tom Clifford said it best: Rick was all about service to others. I was privileged to work with Rick in his capacity as a State Marshal and even more closely at the Regional Water Authority over the past 10 years. I enjoyed every single conversation we had. My prayers and condolences to Rick's family and friends.

Ricky has been a friend for over 50 years..A kind and solid human being. He was always ready to help if he could.
Ricky was my Best Man at my wedding...and when I called him to ask if he would do this for me, I said "Ricky I have a favor to ask of you"...there was a long pause as he most likely wondered what he would need to do for me, having done so much in so many ways before....when I asked him to be my Best Man, another long pause...and then "I would be honored"
Just one of many many memories..going to Newport to the folk festival, chasing him around with scissors trying to cut off his long ponytail after he came back from Vietnam, doing the flowers for his wedding, meeting at the Killingworth Cafe for dinner.....
Ricky, I will miss you more than I can say

My heart is heavy today. Rickie was such a great friend. He was silly, warm, honest, loyal, generous, supportive, always ready & willing to be of help. He didn’t wait to be asked, just jumped in with both feet.
His friendship was a constant.
I’m so glad that he was in my life.
My memories will always be with me.
Love you Rick

Rick was one of the most knowledgeable people that I've ever known. I am blessed to have known him for the short time that I did. I used to save him pickles from the meeting dinners because he always told me that he liked to put them in his bloody mary's. I will miss him.

To Rick's family -
My deepest sympathy on your loss. Rick was an American original. His very core compelled him to help others. We were fortunate to have him as the longest serving member of the Regional Water Authority's Representative Policy Board. Rick's innumerable contributions included the orientation program for new members. Moreover, in a much larger way, Rick reflected community service. We were privileged to know him. Thank you for sharing him with us.
