Richard F. Houpert, 88, of Clinton died January 26th at Robin’s Nest, his home away from home for the past four years. He was born on September 10, 1923 in Flushing, New York, son of Emma and André Houpert. A graduate of The City College of NY, he had resided in Queens, NY, the Washington, DC area, and in Clinton for the last 49 years of his life. A veteran of WW II, he spent time in the Pacific theatre in combat retaking Luzon in the Philippines, and was later selected to the Army band as a clarinetist. Richard was a salesman extraordinaire, but best known as a life-long musician, often entertaining in local venues with his Chicago Jazz trio.
Richard was a prolific writer of soulful poetry and storyteller of mythic proportion. His morning crepes and leg of lamb dinners were legendary.
He is survived by sons Richard (Francoise) Houpert of Mansfield, MA, James (Jude) and Thomas (Ann) Houpert of Killingworth, Peter (Jane) Houpert of Glastonbury, and David (Judy) Houpert of West Hartford.
