

On Tuesday, January 10th, Robert Franklin Taylor passed away from complications related to COVID. His family thanks the caring staff at Middlesex Hospital for their dedication. Robert joins his beloved wife of 51 years, Judy, who passed in February 2003 and to whom he was truly devoted.
Robert was born and raised in Media PA to Percival Taylor and Arlene Taylor. He is survived by his sister, Anna Lou Harney of Merry Point, VA, and two children: Matthew Taylor of Guilford, CT and Lindsay Taylor and her wife, Mary Rajnic of Allentown, PA. Robert was predeceased by two of his sisters, Betty McFadden and Dorothy Booth. He also leaves behind several loved relatives from across the country, as well New Zealand.
Robert attended Penn Charter High School, Swarthmore College and Drexel University where he earned his Masters Degree. A devoted Red Sox fan and very active athlete, he played twelve sports throughout high school and college, but loved tennis and sailing. Robert learned to sail at the Beach Haven Yacht Club in Beach Haven, New Jersey and over the course of his life owned five sailboats. In college, Robert’s love of the sea led him to spend summers in the Merchant Marines.
After college, Robert served as an engineer in the Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, he worked for Blakeslee Prestress for almost 35 years, including several as Plant Manager before going into the precast concrete erection business on his own. Robert was well-respected throughout the construction industry. He left an impact on all who knew with him as a compassionate, intelligent and humble man.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 20th at 6pm at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton. Calling hours will be held for two hour prior to the service at the funeral home, from 4-6pm. He will be cremated. His legacy is to be remembered as seeing good things in people.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Connecticut Food Bank or to a charity of one’s choice.
