He was born on June 19, 1950, in Madison, the son of Wilhelm and Glenna Voelkel.
Robert was employed for many years as a truck driver. He was a member of the Ancient Mariners Fife and Drum Corp for many years.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; daughters Heather Rollins of Shelby, NC and Tanya Young of Deep River; sons Robert, Jr., of San Diego and Joseph Voelkel of Henderson, NV; siblings Wilhelm Voelkel and Juby Gray of Killingworth; grandson Michael Baker; 11 additional grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
