

Thomas Francis Shugrue, 66, Clinton CT, died on May 24th, 2011, from injuries sustained from a tragic accident in his home in Clinton, CT. Thomas was born April 9th, 1945, one of seven children to the late Martin & Dorothy Shugrue. He grew up in Providence and graduated from Johnston High School in 1964 and holds an associate degree in Electronics from Community College of Rhode Island. He served 26 years as a reserve member of the Air National Guard, retiring in 1996 as a Master Sergeant. Thomas worked as a driving instructor for AAA out of Old Saybrook, CT where he taught countless people to drive; including many teens from Clinton CT. Tom was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Church. Tom was known for his willingness to lend a helping hand without ever being asked, whether it was to fix a computer or assist in home improvements. Thomas is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Anne Shugrue, his three daughters Colleen, Lauren and Kristen Shugrue and his grandsons, Connor Thomas and Jackson Paul. He was the brother of the late Marty Shugrue of Pan AM and late Mary Anne Shugrue of Providence , RI, and the brother of Jack Shugrue of West Warwick RI, Dotty Shugrue of Cheshire, CT, Roberta and Joe Notargiacomo of Clinton TX and Jane M Shugrue of Smithfield RI. He was the uncle of 13 nieces and nephews and 17 grand nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be at Swans Funeral Home on Friday, May 27th from 4pm to 8pm and a Funeral Service at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton, CT at 10am on Saturday, May 28th. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery Clinton.
