Tina was born on February 2, 1964, in Queens, NY, to Ruth and Heinz, who met at a German singing club. She grew up in Woodhaven with her older brother Paul, in a home full of family, with Sunday “Kaffee und Kuchen,” camping trips, beach days, and holidays shared with aunts, uncles, and cousins. She loved to sing and was a member of the choir at Christ Congregational Church, where she was confirmed and later married, and she graduated from Hillcrest High School. She went on to SUNY Buffalo, where she studied German and met Chris, the love of her life. They were married on June 14, 1986.
Tina worked in a dental office before devoting herself to raising her children, Jessica and Matthew, with endless love. While they were growing up, she worked as a substitute teacher and served as Sunday School Superintendent of Killingworth Congregational Church. In her forties she returned to school for a master’s degree in elementary education at Southern Connecticut State University and became a preschool teacher. She took great pride in her work, where she helped children learn kindness, respect, and how to treat others well.
Tina was a lifelong learner. This past year she was learning Italian and brushing up on her French. She was also a dedicated volunteer, supporting many causes over the years, most recently at the Brainerd Memorial Library. She felt deeply for others, people and animals alike, and she shared her love of dogs and cats with a houseful of pets over the years. Her creativity showed in the handcrafted cards she sent for every holiday, and in the holiday decorations that filled her home each season.
Tina was happiest around the dinner table with her family. Her faith and her belief in helping others were a guiding force in her life. She also had a wonderfully unexpected sense of humor. She was so genuine that her sarcasm was especially funny, and even near the end she kept her family laughing by rolling her eyes at them.
Her family is deeply grateful to her team of providers and nurses, who put her well-being first and cared for her with great compassion.
She is survived by her loving husband, Chris; her children, Jessica (Ray) and Matthew; her brother, Paul; and her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, extended family, and many loving friends. She is reunited with her parents, Ruth and Heinz.
Rev. Katrina Manzi will lead a memorial service November 1st from 3-4pm at the Congregational Church in Killingworth, 273 Route 81, Killingworth. Private cremation will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
