

She was born on April 12, 1921, in Boston, MA, the daughter of Thomas and Gertrude (Middleton) O’Shaughnessy.
Virginia was the wife of the late Robert E. Griffin Sr., to whom she was married for 49 years.
Virginia graduated in 1939 from Notre Dame Academy, Roxbury, MA, the oldest Catholic day academy for girls in New England. Following her graduation, Virginia served as a WAVE in the United States Navy during World War II. After marriage, Virginia became a nurturing homemaker to her five children and beloved husband. She was an active community member working in the kitchen of the Clinton Public Schools, serving as a long time volunteer of the Shoreline Soup Kitchen and Pantries, as well as a dedicated volunteer at the Estuary Council of Seniors-Thrift Shop in Old Saybrook. Ginny enjoyed membership in the Shoreline Thirty-Niners. She was an energetic senior swimming weekly at the YMCA. Virginia loved life and her many friends along the Connecticut Shoreline. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation, Clinton and a long time friend and visitor of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, Westbrook.
Virginia is survived by her brother Robert O’Shaughnessy of Bourne, MA and her five children, Robert E. Griffin and daughter-in-law Mary Griffin from Coronado, California; Trudy Griffin, from Clinton; Edward Griffin and daughter-in-law Carol Griffin from San Marcos, California; Mary Pope and son-in-law Steven from Old Saybrook and Thomas Griffin and daughter-in-law Holly from Gatlinburg, TN. She is also survived by eight loving grandchildren and four very special great-grandsons. Besides her husband, She was predeceased by her parents and brother Thomas O’Shaughnessy.
Calling hours will be held on Friday March 27th from 4-6pm, with Vigil from 6-6:30 at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton. The funeral procession will assemble at the funeral home on Saturday at 10am and will proceed to a 11am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, Grove St., Clinton. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Clinton.
