

William J. O’Day, Jr. 87, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. Born in New Britain, CT on December 3, 1927 to William J. O’Day, Sr and Genevieve Kajaskas O’Day. After graduating from New Britain High School, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He later joined the Air National Guard in Windsor Locks, CT and was stationed at the Air Force Base in West Hampton Beach, Long Island, N.Y. Bill graduated from Hillyer College at the University of Hartford with an Associates Degree in Business Administration. He was employed by the Southern New England Telephone Company for 32 years retiring in 1985.
Bill was an avid gardener and took great pride in the appearance of his home and yard. He enjoyed watching football games and, as a veteran he enjoyed reading military history and watching the Military Channel on TV.
Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Irene Sakmar O’Day, his two sons Timothy, Richard (Carol) O’Day, beloved daughters Eileen (Brian) DeWolf, Nancy Riggs, and grandchildren Justin DeWolf, Thomas DeWolf, and Sara Riggs. Also surviving are his sister Patricia Coutu and her family.
Calling hours will be Saturday, November 7 at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St, Clinton from 9-11 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am at St. Mary’s Church, 54 Grove St, Clinton. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. The family wishes to express their great appreciation for the loving, compassionate care Bill received from Middlesex Hospital Hospice staff and from all the staff at Aaron Manor in Chester, CT.
