He was born Nov 22, 1926 in Detroit, MI. Al attended and graduated from Edwin Denby High School and attended Wayne State University where he discovered his passion for theatre and the arts.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1945 to 1946.
Al was a self-made man who began his career as a traveling salesman selling emerging technology (paint rollers). He worked at The Hoover Company where he met Louise, the true love of his life. He worked at Tri-Penn Petroleum and Vesco Oil. He was a lifelong entrepreneur, establishing and developing a wide variety of businesses including archery, golf club repair, oil and chemical distribution, artesian candles and historic plaques.
He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge #522 in Roseville, MI and St. Mark Lutheran Church. Al was married to Helen Louise Shea on Feb 12, 1955 who proceeded him in 2000 and remained his guiding star throughout his life.
With family and friends, he established the Four Seasons family retreat in Coldwater Township, MI where he shared his love of the outdoors with family and many friends throughout the years, including his beloved friend James Simpson. He enjoyed playing softball, umpiring, archery, camping, and woodworking. But most of all, he loved people and was always thrilled to share a smile.
Al is survived by David (Julie), Mark (Christine), Michelle, Heidi (Jeff) along with 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Al’s life will be held at Kaul Funeral Home at 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI on Wednesday, July 24th from 3:00 to 8:00 PM with a 7:00pm Memory Sharing. The funeral services will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church at 26830 W Park St, Roseville, MI 48066 on Thursday, July 25th at 10:00 AM. In State from 9:30 am until time of service. Military honors following service.
