Alfred Velardo passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025 at the age of 94. A man of integrity, resilience, and unwavering dedication, Alfred lived a life defined by service—to his country, his career, and his loved ones.
Born in Detroit, Alfred developed a strong work ethic early in life, which carried him through his years in the U.S. military, where he honorably served during the Korean War. His time in the service instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and patriotism, values he carried with him throughout his life.
Following his military service, Alfred pursued a career in engineering, working for 25 years at General Motors. A talented and hardworking professional, he took immense pride in his work, contributing to the innovation and craftsmanship that defined the automotive industry. His love for cars extended beyond his career—he found joy in working on them, discussing them, and appreciating their design and mechanics.
Alfred was the beloved husband of Grace for 49 years. The loving father of Daniel (the late Frances) Velardo, Janet (the late Duane) Clark, Timothy (Dawn) Velardo, and stepfather of Timothy (Brenda) Fox and Robert (Jeannie) Fox. Cherished grandfather of Jaclyn, Michael, Lauren, Ashley, Lindsey, Andrew, Izzy, Brandon and Collin. The caring great grandfather of Hunter, Vincent, Holly Joan, and Milo. He was the dear brother of the late Antonio Velardo, the late Oresto Velardo and Gina Zuccaro. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Alfred will be held Friday, January 31, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Resurrection Funeral Home, 40800 Hayes Road in Clinton Township. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 31, 2025 at 7:00 PM. An entombment will occur Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Rd, Clinton Township, Michigan 48038.
