Alvin Earl Akers, age 85, passed away August 1, 2013. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II as a Seaman First Class. He retired from the Warren Police Department in 1979 and he was a Veteran’s Counselor in Iosco County. He also served as County Commissioner for Iosco County. Alvin was a member of the Warren Fraternal Order of Police and of the Veterans of Foreign War Fraser Post 6691, along with Post 7435 Commander in Hale, MI and All-State Commander 1991-1992. After retirement, Alvin made his home in Hale, MI and later spent summers in Lexington, MI and winters in New Port Richey, FL. Due to health reasons, he and his wife, Ada, moved to Fraser, MI to be closer to family.
He was a loving husband to Ada (Higginbotham) Reed Akers; father of Alan (Carol), Gary (Barbara), Keith (Beth), and Rodney (Lisa) Akers and Randell (Pat) and Mark (Robin) Reed; loving grandfather of Eric and Adam Reed, Kirk (Veronica), Elizabeth, Tess, Tina, Amanda and Adam Akers; and great-grandfather of Evan, Ashley, Elizabeth, Tyler and Katelyn Reed.
The family will receive visitors from 3-9 p.m. Sunday, August 4 at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield, Clinton Twp., MI. A VFW service will be held at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, August 5 at Kaul Funeral Home.
