Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Evangelist, Grandmother, and Friend. Mrs. Amanda Lee Hammond Martin, affectionately known as Mama or Mother Martin was born in Crawford County, Georgia, to the late Mr. James Hammond Sr. and the late Mrs. Willie Mae Sneed Hammond on Saturday, June 17, 1939. The eldest of eight children, two of whom have preceded her in death, Mr. Willie Joe Hammond and Mrs. Ruth (Alfred) Moore. Also, preceding her in death, two brother in laws, Mr. King David Harris and Mr. John Martin.
Amanda was educated through the Crawford County Training School and graduated on May 15, 1958, in Roberta, Georgia.
Amanda was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Henry Martin on June 28, 1959. And on that day, June 28, 1959, she officially received a second set of parents. They preceded her in death, Mr. Joseph Martin, and Mrs. Lillie Mae Felts Martin, who loved her as their own daughter. And to this union, four children were born. One child preceded them in death, Mr. Henry Dewayne Martin Jr., Friday, March 8, 2002. Amanda lived her dream the fairy tale of being a housewife, and mother, to have a devoted husband, excellent provider, and best friend. Amanda accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was filled with the Holy Ghost, and was ordained as a minister. She loved spreading joy and love of Jesus. To know her was to love her, as she never met a stranger. She prayed for many and encouraged others to give their life to Christ. She loved saying THE Father, THE Son, and THE Holy Ghost. Most importantly, read the bible, let Jesus touch your heart so that you can experience everlasting peace in the kingdom of God. Mom says she’s going through those Pearly Gates of Heaven and streets of Gold. Please get it right so that we will all meet again in Jesus name.
On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Jesus called her name. My faithful servant, your work is done. I heard your cry. NO more suffering. NO more pain. I welcome you with open arms.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of 66 years, Mr. Henry Martin Sr.: 3 daughters, Ms. Roslyne Elaine (Bae Bae), Ms. Santisha Martin, and Ms. Santasha Martin: 3 Grandchildren, Tania Seree Bride, Raphael Dewayne Boyce, and Amanda Elizabeth Ponder. One brother: Mr. James (Mattie Carol) Hammond, Jr., One sister in law: Mrs. Peggy Ann Hammond, 4 sisters: Mrs. Mary Ann (W.C.) Raines, Mrs. Mattie Pearl (Julius) Mobley, Mrs. Earline (Harold) Woodard, and Mrs. Marie (Mack) Woodard. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and all of her bonus kids in love, relatives, and friends.
