

Tony was born in Detroit Michigan on October 12, 1940, the first of three children born to Anthony and Bertha Savant. He was the first male child of his father’s generation and carried his father’s name. Following high school graduation, Tony enlisted in the Air Force and served a tour at Ton Son Nhut air base in Vietnam. Following his service, he utilized skills learned in the Air Force and entered the emerging field of Information Technology where he worked in a variety of capacities for 35 years until his retirement in 2004. Early in his career, he took the Dale Carnegie course and found it so valuable that he became a graduate assistant and helped over 500 students develop skills to enhance their life.
A lifelong bachelor, Tony was an avid golfer, which brought him to the courses in Myrtle Beach so often that upon retirement he purchased a home in Little River. He would play anywhere at any time. Twice he traveled to Scotland to play the courses and in 19** attended the closing round of the British Open.
In addition to golf, Tony loved to play bridge. A highlight was taking a bridge cruise in the Caribbean playing bridge at sea and seeing the sites in port. A favorite tournament of his was the annual regional in Gatlinburg, TN. He was a Board member and the web master for the Southern Michigan Bridge Association and had achieved the status of Gold Life Master. He continued to play until just a few weeks before his death.
He was preceded in death by his sister Kathy and is survived by his brother Mike (Pam).
