It is with great sadness and regret that we report the death of our beloved mother and best friend, Audrey Ann LaBeau Geml on Wednesday, May 14th 2025 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Grosse Pointe Farms on June 15,1940 along with her twin sister Marlene Mae Hyvonen LaBeau. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Alice Vernier of Grosse Pointe Woods; parents, Clifford and Helen LaBeau of St. Clair Shores; her twin, Marlene Mae LaBeau Hyvonen; sister, Elaine; and her son, Airman Scott Thomas Geml. She was also predeceased by her ex-husband, Thomas Geml; and her longtime golf partner and soulmate, Bill Lucken.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Ann Geml and partner Gary Schambre of Warren; her daughter Karen Elizabeth Geml, of Winter Haven, Florida; and her son, Gary Kenneth Geml of Detroit and Fort Lauderdale; her brother: Larry LaBeau and sister-in-law Christine of St. Clair Shores, and Leonard La Beau and sister-in-law Kathleen of Las Vegas. Audrey is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren of the heart and cherished family friend, Dr. Paul Benson; and lastly, by her beautiful Maine Coon cat, Molly Girl.
She retired in January 2000 from Cross and Trecker where she worked as a Purchasing Agent for 32 years and made many, many life-long friends.
She was an avid gardener and for 50 plus years her yard was always filled with dozens of beautiful flowers – annuals, perennials, hostas, flowering shrubs and vines, ornamental grasses, and many spring-flowering bulbs. She loved the wildlife and shared her bounty with them.
She was also an avid golfer and played many courses around the country with her partner Bill. She was fun loving, appreciated most music, and loved to dance. She also was into scrapbooking and has photo albums where she journaled and shared all the stories and milestones of the lives of family and friends from the time she was a child to the present day. In retirement she always had her nose in a book or in a NYT crossword puzzle.
Rest in Peace Mom - we love and miss you!
