I found Bill's obituary by chance today.  I read all the memories he created for others on this site. Bill and I car pooled to Anchor Bay Junior High for several years. He always brought me a coffee for the ride into school as he got into the car. He made my day start with laughter and end the same.  He was a gift to Anchor Bay Schools. His telling of stories just captured the interests of students and staff. I wish I had kept in contact with him after he retired. He lives on with so many of us who knew him.  Tom Reggio

Bill was my 8th grade homeroom teacher at St. Mary, Mt. Clemens. I have fond memories of that year, and how much fun he was. My prayers and sympathy to his family.

We can't be with you to hold your hands or hug you, but rest assured we are there in spirit . Bill was a good man and will surely be missed by all who knew him.We will keep him and the family in our thoughts and prayers

Mr. Nebel was my absolute favorite Junior High teacher, and he quickly became a close family friend.  We would wake up in the morning and find a container of frozen perch on our porch, that he would have left there on his way to school.  Or we would awake to find a bag of fresh fruit or vegetables which he had grown in his garden on the farm.  My parents would ask, "Who is this man who keeps leaving food on our porch?"  When they got to meet him they became fast friends.  I was Billy's babysitter for a while, and his daughters Kitty and Sally were flower girls in our wedding.  I am so happy I was able to visit with him and Rosie this past February, when they came to celebrate my parents' 80th birthday party.   So blessed you were a part of my life.  You will be missed! I worked with Bill for many years in Anchor Bay.  He was a respected colleague and  a teacher who enjoyed what he did.  May God give your family comfort.

We have sad hearts and gratitude for the wonderful times we shared with Bill & Rosie  on St Simons Island and our road trips to South Carolina ( Bluffton, Beaufort) .....this past winter was not the same without our Nebel gang! We feel blessed to have known such a fine gentlemen and dear person. What laughter, good times, and experiences we had watching Super Bowls, playing  Dominos, telling stories, riding bikes ,reading and relaxing,  laughing so much, St Patrick's Day, going to many southern restaurants and events on Jekyll and St Simons Island, the brothers  Bill and Jack  enjoying the back porch hot  tub at their island place.....we will treasure those times and always remember. We love you Bill! We will miss our chats, your beautiful smile, warmth and humor. God Bless and watch over you til we meet again.

I first met Bill when I was 20 years old. He grew up next door to my first husband and was in our wedding, and he and Rosie became good friends of mine. He was a wonderful man - fun, positive, kind, thoughtful, and always interesting. But most of all, Bill had a sense of humility that made him constantly think of others first. Talking to Bill I knew I had his full attention and he was involved in our conversation. When I was around Bill he made me feel that I was the best. He was a great family man who loved Rosie with all his heart. Bill took great pleasure in everyday things - especially his beautiful garden. He s. eemed to delight in even the smallest of things. I truly consider Bill to be one of the finest, most honorable men I have ever known. He will be missed a great deal.

Fond memories of this man who was the twin of my co worker, Jack Nebel.  Last saw him a few years ago while walking on the Bike Path.  In the intervening years, I got older.  It is always a shock to realize that our friends also get older too.  Loved his upbeat attitude and the joking that went on between the two brothers.  Ironic that Bill's demise would come at the same time that their becloved alma mater (St. Mary's School) was becoming a beloved part of the history of our town.  Love and sympathies to Jack and the family  of Bill.  He was a great man

On the gridiron and on skates you could fly Bill. Only Brother Jack kept pace. And you were crafty, too often trapping me at poker. And bold, going alone in euchre winning that pot more than all others. 

Recently I related a story to you about Gary Stamps throwing you out at first base from leftfield.Your speed took you too far around the bag and Glen Snow "deeked" you into thinking there was no play. 

You said it must have been Brother Jack. You're so honest I have to believe you spoke the truth but in the back of my mind I wonder if you were bluffing me again. All of my memories of us are good Bill but I did do you wrong once. I talked you into adding okra to one of your poker night recipes. You didn't know what okra was and I'm thinking of the boys eating that long green slimy hairy misshapen thing. I laughed for a week thinking what was coming to our next game. When you told me how much time and effort went into preparing it I was ashamed. No one even commented. You won again.

With your new wings you are flying again Bill. I know you will be checking on those who love you.

Condolences to Rosie and family.

I will remember him as a man who loved to teach. Every child ,even the quiet to the out standing student meant something to him, in his own peaceful way. He believed in treating everyone as an equal  and he would stand up for any student that was having a hard time. A heart of pure love , understanding , and respect. Thank you for teaching me so much on life. Anchor Bay School District was so very lucky to have you and many great teachers teach the students of New Baltimore.  May God hold you in his loving arms.. and give your family strength at this time. You will be remembered.....

I met Bill my first day as a teacher at Anchor Bay Junior High.  We taught History across the hall from each other.  I enjoyed Bill's humor.  He taught me that a career in education is a marathon...not a sprint.  I wish Bill's family all the best.  Bill loved life and lived everyday to make a difference!

I met you the first day that I taught across the hall from you at Anchor Bay Junior High in 1973. We both taught history.  You were the veteran and you reminded me, on several occasions, that I was the rookie.  You called me Charlie...just like my high school coaches.  I had a lot to learn about teaching and coaching, and you were there every step of the way.  Your quick laughter, and jokes, taught me that being a good educator was a marathon not a sprint.  I will miss you and wish nothing but warm wishes to your family.

God Bless educators like Mr.  Nebel.  I'm sure he has been welcomed into an eternal life,  with health &happiness!!!  This is the essence of Mr.  Nebel.  Tom Semaan was right,  he was "one of the good one's. "  Those of us will remember him fondly.  Thank you for sacrificing your time for US!!!

Mr Nebel, You are the kind of teacher that everybody loves to have. I still remember forty plus years later how you were a presence, and Loved what you did in the classroom. Thank you for noticing the value in even the meek, under achievers as a Value to the whole. You sir will not be forgotten, and as a matter of fact will be talked about for years to come.. May your family& Friends find the comfort in the knowledge that our faith teaches us, That Our Risen Savior has paid in full for. May you rest in peace, and may perpetual Light shine upon you.

I can't begin to tell you how sorry Shawn and I were to hear about Bill's passing.  You always think there will be a tomorrow, but God has called a wonderful person home.  I always enjoyed talking with Bill when we saw each other at my Mom's house or at one of Paula's Christmas parties later in life.  Bill was in our thoughts and prayers at Church today as well as Rosemary and the rest of your family, and will continue to be.

Our favorite brother-in-law!!  Bill will truly be missed by both of us. He always was very generous with his laughter and smiles. He loved to tease me( Michele).  He was a great host at family gatherings and just any time you stopped by his house. He gave us many flowers for our yard.  We love you Bill. God bless your soul and bless and comfort to you Rosie. Bill was always outgoing and extended a friendly hand whenever necessary. We first met him at Macomb Elementary.  He and I were waiting for Rosie and Bull to get out of a meeting. After that a friendship was born. He will be missed by all who knew him especially his loving family.Our deepest condolences to you.

I didn't know Bill long, but he called me his friend and I am honored. It seems that he loved meeting people and always had good things to say about everyone.  He seemed intensely interested in whatever you had to say, he made you important. Whenever I see the Notre Dame initials (I referred to the ND as North Dakota) I will think of Bill. You have to love a guy who, with all the illness and problems he had, could still have a laughing jag with his brother for no reason other than they were laughing at each other for laughing. I have missed him at cards for the last months and will not forget him. If we had had more time, I was going to teach him how to comb his hair. The world needs a lot more Bill Nebels!

I was saddened to here of the passing of "Mr. Nebel".  He had been a friend of our family for over 70 years.  First known by my father Richard Campau as childhood friend, and later by the rest of our family he was always a man of honor and integrity.  Full of life and laughter he was a bright spot in many lives.  He would be known respectfully by myself and other neighborhood friends as a go to person if trouble arose.  Later in my life, after the passing of my own father, "Mr. Nebel" would recall his experiences with him as I would stop by his house to visit in recent years.  I rode my bicycle many times by his home in recent years and would share pleasant memories of the past along with new experiences of the present.  If I didn't stop to talk there was always a pleasant smile and wave from "Mr. Nebel" as I bicycled by.  He is a personality from my life I will miss seeing when I visit home.  He was truly a grand gentleman and a great member of my neighborhood in Michigan.  My sincere condolences to his family at this difficult time.

Bill will be missed by all that new him, a genuine and sincere person one will ever meet. A great sense of humor with a smile on his face always. God rest your soul, you are in a better place.

I met Bill at the senior euchre club.  He always seemed so happy and always made us laugh.  He gave me some good tips on playing cards.  He will be sadly missed.

From the day we became neighbors 5 yrs ago with Bill and Rosie they have been nothing but kind.  Bill would let our daughters come over to pick tomatoes out of his garden in the backyard and every Halloween we would come home to pumpkins on our porch Bill brought over for them.  From hearing Bill in the early morning looking for Henry outside to seeing him sitting outside watering his flowers I will always remember Bill as one of the kindest most positive souls I've ever met!! We love you and miss you Mr. Bill, God rest your soul!

Mr. Nebel was my favorite of all the dads. Such a sweet, gentle man with a big heart. Sending love and hugs to the entire Nebel family.
