Catherine Berezowsky, age 98, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026 in Troy, Michigan. She was born on September 26, 1927 in Jaroslaw, Poland, and carried with her a lifelong spirit of resilience, generosity and quiet devotion to others.
Catherine loved cooking for her family, gardening and volunteering at her church. For holiday dinners, she baked and cooked for days, bringing her Polish and Ukrainian recipes to the table. Her flower beds won beautification awards and her huge vegetable garden flourished from apples to zucchini. She took pride in sharing the fruits of her labor with others, just as she shared her time and kindness generously throughout her life.
A loyal, life-long parishioner of St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, Catherine volunteered in the kitchen making perogies and planting and caring for the church flower gardens. She brought warmth and beauty to her community. Her faith was reflected not only in her service, but in her compassionate and giving nature.
Catherine’s dedication can also be seen in the over 30 years she worked at Ford Motor Company as a seamstress. She was a bit of a perfectionist when it came to her job-making sure every stitch was top quality right up until her retirement.
She had a love for animals and would feed any that wandered into her backyard-from birds to butterflies to squirrels. She had several cats that kept her company after retirement. Her home was a place of compassion, comfort and care.
Above all, Catherine was devoted to her family and a source of support-always ready to listen, offer guidance, and lend a helping hand. “Baba” (as her grandkids called her) was a role model, blessing and her kindness will be deeply missed.
Catherine is survived by her daughters, Irka Berezowsky and Lisa (Rich) Hutchins; grandchildren: Tonya (Michael) Aquino, Oksana Wyrembelski, Lauren (Jakub) Flaga, and Morgan Hutchins, Jessica Berezowsky, Steven Berezowsky, Nicholas Berezowsky, Jamie (Wendie) Berezowsky, Melissa Berezowsky, Bryan Berezowsky; great-grandchildren: Catherine, Michael, Teresa, Brady, Lillie, Madison, Kian, and Amelia. Catherine was preceded in passing by her sons, Eugene Berezowsky and Michael Berezowsky.
We take comfort in knowing that Catherine, “Baba” is at peace.
Catherine will be remembered privately by her family at this time.
