He was born on June 21, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, to Charles James Reichel Sr. and Irene Henrietta (née Geib) Reichel. Charles was raised in Roseville, where he attended Catholic grade school and later graduated from Roseville High School. He went on to earn his associate degree from Macomb Community College.
Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and then dedicated many years of his life as a factory worker at TRW, retiring at the age of 60. In his retirement, he continued working part-time at Home Depot. Throughout his life, he remained grounded in his Christian faith.
He shared a life of partnership with his wife, Judith Lee (née Donald) Reichel. Together, they raised their children and faced life’s challenges and joys until her passing 15 years ago.
Charles had a variety of interests. In his younger years, he enjoyed running (and objected to calling it jogging) and was a boxer in the Navy. He also loved playing ice hockey as a goalie. Family time was especially meaningful to him, particularly camping trips and visits to Sand Lake campgrounds. Throughout his life, Charles was a nature enthusiast and particularly loved birds. His knowledge of the names and habits of various birds was truly impressive.
Though he experienced challenges throughout his life, Charles showed growth and resilience. In his later years, he became known for his cheerful and pleasant nature, bringing light and warmth to others, including his neighbors. Charles loved to laugh and joke with everyone around him. Above all, he held a deep and enduring love for his family.
Charles is survived by his children, Noel (Jennifer) Reichel and Nicole Reichel (Tom Schramm). He is also survived by his best friend and “second” family, Don and Sandy Collar, and Danny and Dana Collar. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith Reichel; his parents, Charles Reichel Sr. and Irene Reichel; and his sister, Debbie Reichel.
Funeral services will be held privately.
