A lifelong resident of Michigan, Chris was born in Warren on December 25, 1968 but grew up in Waterford and attended Waterford Mott High School. His later teens were spent in Utica where he attended Utica Eisenhower High School. Chris worked in a variety of employment in the construction field. He also worked in the restaurant field from service to food preparation. He had cooked in establishments from corner bars to fine dining. Chris had an opportunity to meet and cook for national and local celebrities over the years, and took great pride in food presentation.
Many things about Chris will be missed. Chris was a gracious host to friends and family with food being the center of things. He was in his element serving others during gatherings at holidays or summer BBQs. Chris had a quirky sense of humor. He loved “Goodfellas” and “The Godfather” movies as well as the Dean Martin Roasts and Barney Miller, a 1970s-80s comedy. A favorite phrase of his was “Fahget about it.” Chris had an eclectic love of music genres fostered in childhood by his father that ranged from 1940s Big Band to Alternative Rock to Christian Contemporary. But the thing about Chris that will be most missed is his heart for those society considers as throw-aways or less fortunate. He would give his last dime to someone on the street, even though he knew it was not likely going for food or shelter. Affectionately known as “Uncle C”, Chris had a huge heart for people with special needs, especially children. He enjoyed interacting with the kids and families for whom Diana attends in her daycare.
Chris is survived by his beloved daughter, Anna Laura (Brandon) of Waterford; his longtime love Diana Conn of Lansing; sisters: Ann (Don) Wolfbauer of Shelby Township and Martie (Jeff) Gerecke of Waterford; special sister-in-law, Melanie (Del) Calisterio of Sterling Heights; many nieces, nephews and their families. Chris also leaves a host of Diana’s family in Lansing, including Diana’s daughters Renee (Preston) Jordan and Jenna (Drew) Bergstrom. He was preceded in death by parents: James E. Laura in 1982 and Anna (nee Kornacki) Laura in 1990; brother, James D. Laura in 1981; sisters, Janet Wolfbauer in 2014 and Mary Ann Barnes in 2017.
