Daniel Walter Papuga, 71, passed away on March 18, 2022 after a ten-year battle with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). As with all things in life, Dan met this challenge with courage and kept his witty personality and sense of humor. Dan retired in 2009 after a 34-year career as a mechanic and finish painter with the Detroit Public Library. He was a perfectionist when it came to carpentry and engine repair. When not tinkering with his numerous projects, Dan enjoyed camping at Michigan’s State Parks, spending time outdoors with his family at their property in Bear Lake, and cheering on his alma mater, the Michigan State University Spartans.
He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 40 years, Mary, his daughter, Kristen, her husband Brandon, two granddaughters, Brooke and Hazel, his canine companion, Rain, and many other extended family and friends. There will be a Celebration of Life held in Dan’s honor on July 10, 2022. Please call or text Kristen at (616)550-8674 for additional details. Contributions in memory of Dan can be made to the GBS/CIDP Foundation International (http://www.gbs-cidp.org).
