David Anthony Freigruber, a longtime resident of Washington, passed away peacefully at his home on September 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 88 years old.
David was born on March 19, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to Henry and Mary (née Morian) Freigruber. As a child, David lived on his grandfather's farm for a time, a place he fondly remembered and loved. His family later moved to Detroit, where he graduated from Denby High School. He then lived in Sterling Heights with his parents until he married the love of his life, Geraldine “Geri” Marie Roggeman, on November 10, 1962, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Harper Woods. Together, David and Geri built a loving family and shared nearly 64 years of marriage. He was a wonderful, loving husband and father.
David proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves during the Cuban Missile Crisis, serving beginning in 1959 and continuing into the early 1960s.
He enjoyed a long and dedicated career. David began working for Detroit Dye Works in Detroit before spending many years working for various carpet and flooring companies. He retired from United Carpet at the age of 62.
David was a lifelong learner with a wide range of interests. He loved reading, particularly books about science and history, and in his younger years, he enjoyed reading comic books. He also enjoyed traveling with Geri, including a memorable Disney Cruise as well as trips to Cozumel and Belize. Throughout his life, David had a special love for dogs, beginning with the pets he cherished while growing up. He was also a kind man who loved the Lord. David’s faith was an important part of his life, and he was a member of Impact Church in Romeo.
David will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Geraldine “Geri” Freigruber; his children, Julie Marie (Craig) Lankford, Deborah Ann (James) Bodany, Tammy Sue (Nelson) Ross, Wendy Gail (Eric) Fisher, John David (Penny) Freigruber, and Michael Paul (Ari) Freigruber; his grandchildren, Marissa (Patrick) Lester, Forest (Grace) Fisher, Dylan Ross, Garrett Fisher, Harmony Ross, Jennifer (Kyle) Pollari, Jonathan Freigruber, Heather Fisher, and Blake Freigruber; and his great-grandchildren, Archer and Remington Lester and Maverick and Lainey Pollari. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Mark (Diane) Freigruber, Henry (Sue) Freigruber Jr., Theresa (Joseph) Labadie, Sue (William) Wesp, and Fred (Sue) Maynard; as well as his close cousin, Bob Brohl.
