Dominic Serra, age 93, of Sterling Heights, Michigan passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Dominic was born into this world on June 26th, 1931, the eight of nine children born to Giuseppe and Vincenzina Serra.
He attended Detroit public schools. Dominic served in the Army from 1948 to 1952, reaching the rank of corporal. Dominic was working at A&P when he met the love of his life, Hazel, who was shopping with her mother. After only 3 dates Dominic already knew one day they would be married. On April 3rd, 1954, they were wed. Dominic worked in construction for a few years then started working in the OD / ID grinding business and in 1974 started his own grinding business. He sold the business to his partners when he retired.
Dominic and Hazel were blessed with twins, Mike and Cindy, followed by their sister Sherry. Dominic was Grandfather to six grandchildren, Shannon, Jennifer, Dominic, Jeremy, Jonathan and Nicole and great grandfather to Holly, Hazel, Elena, Violet, and Lincoln.
In 1988 Dominic and Hazel took their first camping trip with their daughter Cindy and her husband and over the next 20 years they would enjoy camping with family and friends. Dominic had a strong faith and was always active in his church, ushering on Sundays. He was a member of Hope Lutheran until it closed and then joined Ascension Lutheran church. It was there He really found a home looking forward to Sunday service and seeing his many friends. Dominic was an avid bowler, playing in several leagues and reaching the pinnacle for any bowler, rolling a perfect game at the age of 70. He was very proud of his 300 game. Dominic was very much a people person. He loved to visit with family and friends and really enjoyed talking with everyone. He had a very easy-going and caring personality. One thing he truly enjoyed was eating, whether at home with family or out for a meal. By far his favorite was anything his wife Hazel made.
Dominic is survived by his children, Cindy (Joe) Lemmon, Sherry (Paul) Miela; grandchildren, Shannon (Dan), Jennifer, Dominic, Jeremy (Katie), Jonathan, Nicole (Aaron); great-grandchildren, Holly, Hazel, Elena, Violet, Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel; his son, Michael Serra; and all of his siblings.
A visitation for Dominic will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48035. A visitation will occur Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 10:00 am until a Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Ascension Lutheran Church & Preschool, 23401 23 Mile Rd, Macomb, MI 48042. Burial at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township.
