Husband of the late Helen Farr; father of Donnie Treakle, Michael Treakle, Donna Treakle, Violet Lees, Susan Coshatt, Paul & Mary Gardner; grandfather of John Lees, Ava Lees, Carlier Lees, Rio Lees, Alexandria Coshatt, Ryan Coshatt, Makayla Gardner, Dora Gardner, Helen Gardner, Ciara Treakle, Gunner Treakle, and Kaysen Treakle; great-grandfather of Braelynn Teixeira; dear friend of Violet Lees, Emily Springstead, Libby York; also survived by extended family members: uncle John Hamilton; aunt Nina Lombardo; cousins: Philip Borghi, Suzanne Appleby, April Krebs, Katelyn Whitefield, and Gary Krebs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lynn; aunt, Helen Powers; uncle, Mac MacDonald; and cousin, Cindy Bennett.
Don was born in Norfolk, Virginia but spent time traveling since his dad was in the Navy, but he often spoke fondly of his time on Guam. He lived in Michigan for at least the last 30 years. He was a homebody, he enjoyed blasting his music and kicking back with a beer (Budweiser), loved to laugh and joke around as well as share stories and memories with people. When he was around friends, he was the life of the party. He was loud, goofy, and spoke his own language (a bunch of weird metaphors and phrases that we had to decipher)
Don was a chef for most of his late adult life, but his passion was when he was a radio personality while he lived in Florida. He was passionate about music, especially Rock n Roll. Enjoyed collecting (Marilyn Monroe artwork, Budweiser collectibles and apparel). Enjoyed kayaking, and watching game shows and sports (mostly football). Loved hosting SuperBowl parties! And cooking for every holiday/cookout throughout the year.
Favorite places to travel were Guam and Florida (he often joked that he couldn’t go visit Florida again because he wouldn’t come back and would just stay there). His last vacation was with his daughter (Donna) and their dogs, the late Bella and Logan, to Lexington, MI.
Don had strong faith, his home church in his heart was CrossPoint in Mt. Clemens even though he had not been there in a while.
Don was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2024, and started hospice at the end of November. He fought long and hard to spend as much time with us as he could, and his son and daughter were with him during his final moments.
A visitation for Donald will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Kaul Funeral Home, 35201 Garfield Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48035, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 pm.
